About OI Lead Initiative

From August 1st to August 31st, Otermans Institute offers 9 free lessons about AI literacy, delivered by AI teachers. The lessons are designed to equip young learners in Kenya with the essential digital skills they need to thrive in their ever-evolving future.The initiative is exclusively available to registered NGOs and charities working in the education sector in Kenya—including internationally based organisations. This programme ensures certified learning, rewards, and career-building opportunities for eligible youth. Please note that participation is limited to a maximum of 25,000 learners. No previous knowledge of AI tools is required.

Must be actively working in Kenya with at least one team member based in the country.

Learners

Aged 16–24, fluent in English, and have access to an internet-enabled device(tablet, phone, laptop, but no iOS)

How does it work

Eligibility
Organisations must be a registered NGO or charity working in the education sector in Kenya, with at least one team member based in the country
Minimum enrollment
Every organisation can enroll up to 5,000 learners
Learner requirements
Aged 16–24, fluent in English, and have access to an internet-enabled device (tablet, phone, laptop, but no iOS devices)
Commitment
Organisations must enroll and support their learners throughout the programme by assigning at least 1 team member to coordinate the initiative

What is the ‘OI Lead’ initiative?
From 1 to 31 August, Otermans Institute will deliver 9 free lessons to equip young Kenyans (aged 16–24) with essential digital and Artificial Intelligence skills. On successful completion, learners receive official certification and access to further rewards and career-building opportunities.
How do we apply?
Complete the online registration form  between 15 June and 11 July. You must provide your organisation’s registration details along with a concise 90-second video explaining why your organisation and your learners should be selected.
How many learners each organisation can enroll?
Every organisation can enroll up to 5,000 learners. Learners should be aged 16–24, fluent in English, with access to an internet-enabled tablet, Android phone or laptop (iOS devices are not supported).
How is the programme delivered?
All nine lessons are delivered online. Course materials and assignments are accessible without internet, so learners can work at their own pace on compatible devices (tablet, Android phone or laptop). Learners need to access internet only to download the app provided by Otermans Institute.
What certification will learners receive?
Learners who successfully complete all 9 lessons will be awarded an official digital certificate by 8 September. This certificate recognises their comprehensive understanding of core AI concepts, serving as a valuable credential for further academic pursuits and real-world applications.
Is there any cost to participate?
No. The entire programme—including lessons, materials, certification and rewards—is entirely free of charge.
